When the frame (yes, frame, not chain) on my old Raleigh Pioneer snapped a few weeks ago, I faced two choices. I could pay £100 or so to have the frame completely stripped, sent to Raleigh for welding, then have the bike reassembled. Or I could say adios to my feckless companion of six years and start afresh.
