Gold medals are rare treasures for British athletes. But the track cyclist Victoria Pendleton already has quite a collection of them, beginning with the one she won in Los Angeles in 2005 to become the first British woman ever to win the world sprint title. Here, in a seasonably wet, cold Manchester at the end of March, she is defending the three she won at the 2007 World Track Cycling Championships in Majorca, beginning with the team sprint. (01/05)
