Victoria Pendleton: pedal to the medal
Gold medals are rare treasures for British athletes. But the track cyclist Victoria Pendleton already has quite a collection of them, beginning with the one she won in Los Angeles in 2005 to become the first British woman ever to win the world sprint title. Here, in a seasonably wet, cold Manchester at the end of March, she is defending the three she won at the 2007 World Track Cycling Championships in Majorca, beginning with the team sprint.
